The Maldives is a destination we’ve all imagined going to at some point. If there’s one thing that all travel guides and articles agree on, it’s that it’s an ideal paradise to visit thanks to its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and lush vegetation. It is also perfect for exploring at any time of the year thanks to its warm climate.

You already know that one of our specialities is being present in the most incredible destinations in the world and helping you discover them. In 2019 we started a new adventure in the Maldives, with two spectacular hotels: the Riu Palace Maldivas and the Riu Atoll. They are located on the wonderful islands of Maafushi and Kedhigandu, in the Dhaalu Atoll, which they have made their home.

The two are connected by a walkway and have spectacular rooms built over the water. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, they offer you an unforgettable experience. They also feature our 24h All Inclusive service that allows you to enjoy the full range of our services around the clock.

What can you do with RIU in the Maldives?

Our two hotels are ideal for everyone. Whether you are on a romantic trip with your partner, on your annual holiday with your group of friends, or indulging in a family treat with your kids, in our hotels you are sure to be entertained. Although if what you are really looking for is total relaxation and just lying on the sand, sunbathing and enjoying doing nothing, this is also the perfect place for that.

On the other hand, if you are one of those people who needs to be active and not stop even during the holidays, the possibilities are endless. Here are all the sports activities available to you:

1. A complete gym for over 18s.

2. Directed activities in the Riu Fit area. When you reach your destination, connect to your hotel’s app and check the schedules and activities available during your stay. You won’t be short of options!

3. Stand-up paddle surfing.

4. Kayaking

5. Pedalos

6. Scuba diving: if you want to dip your toe into this world, at our hotel you can try an introductory lesson in the swimming pool. If you are passionate about the underwater world and want to become an expert, you can go to diving school or get your PADI certificate. The Maldives may be the perfect place: not everyone can boast of earning this qualification in paradise!

All these activities are hosted at the Riu Atoll hotel.

And of course there is also an extensive daytime and evening entertainment programme, seven days a week! For the little ones too! They can have fun and make new friends at Club RiuLand.

Where should I stay in the Maldives?

If you are having doubts… don’t worry! Either of our two hotels is perfect for enjoying this paradise. We’ll tell you a little bit about each one to help you decide.

Riu Palace Maldivas

If you choose this hotel, you will add an extra touch of luxury to your stay. With 176 rooms, it has a wide range of cuisine available, with four themed restaurants for your evening meal: the fusion “Krystal”, the Japanese “Yu Hi”, the Italian “Sofia”, and the Steakhouse. This is on top of the main buffet where you will find a multitude of international options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

There is also a pool bar with a water bar, a Sports Bar and a Lounge Bar where you can cool off with a delicious cocktail.

Riu Atoll

Here there are 264 rooms and two themed restaurants for your evening meal: the Italian “Sofia” and the “Steakhouse”. There is also the main buffet where you can enjoy a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Like the Riu Palace Maldivas, it has a pool bar, a Sports Bar and a Lounge Bar.

Proudly Committed to the Coral Reefs in the Maldives

There are magical places beneath the waters of our hotels: the coral reefs. We have already told you about one of the most special sustainability projects from RIU Hotels & Resorts: the Blue Reef Reforest program. But if you can’t remember, we’ll refresh your memory!

In the vicinity of Kedhigandu Island there is a coral reef covering an area of 20,000 m2. This coral structure suffers from various environmental and human-induced impacts that damage the coral cover. That is why the Blue Reef Reforest programme is aiming to restore the coral reefs in the area. To do this, RIU employs Franco Mendiola, the resident marine biologist at the resort who is in charge of caring for this treasure.

If you are curious to learn more about the project when you arrive in the Maldives, you can go to one of the training sessions where you will be taught responsible diving practices. Guests are also welcome to adopt corals, thereby sponsoring the protection of the reef.

What are you waiting for? This marvellous destination is waiting to make you happy during your days off, the most important part of the year. We look forward to seeing you!
