“Soy un Pequeño Valiente, nadie me va a parar”, the song we will use to help fight childhood cancer

10 January, 2017

We love to ring in the new year with fantastic news like the story we’re going to tell you today. The musical group Playacoco of the Canary Islands has joined Pequeño Valiente for the purpose of funding improvements to the Oncohaematology floor of the Hospital Materno Infantil de Gran Canaria.

The ASOCIACIÓN PADRES UNIDOS PEQUEÑO VALIENTE, which RIU has been collaborating with for some years, has set a goal of raising funds in 2017 to undertake improvements in this hospital. To do so, the parents and children of the association and Playacoco have recorded a video clip in which everyone had a great time. The Canarian group composed the song dedicated to the affected children which is called “Soy un Pequeño Valiente, nadie me va a parar” [I’m a Little Fighter, No One is Going to Stop Me].

This campaign was carried out with a very clear goal: to raise funds for improvement work that will benefit children who spend long periods at the centre. All the money raised with the song, through both royalties and downloads from  “iTunes”, will be dedicated entirely to the association. After the renovation work, the young patients will have individual rooms, a play area and specially adapted bathrooms. The work is scheduled to start in 2017 with the support of collaborating private businesses and the Canarian Health Service.

As you know, at RIU we have been working with Pequeño Valiente for some time now. It is a non-profit charity organisation made up of Canarian parents of children with cancer. Its main purpose is to improve quality of life for the affected children and their families over the course of the illness. And at RIU we are supporting the organisation by covering the costs of maintaining two host flats. These flats provide accommodation to the families of children who travel to the hospital centres in the capital from other islands and towns to receive treatment or for periodic medical check-ups. In addition, RIU carries out other actions during the year to help the association. Last December, the Hotel Riu Don Miguel held a charity Christmas market to benefit this cause which was attended by José Jerez, the president of “Pequeño Valiente” and a Riu Don Miguel employee.
