This is what our new Riu Plaza Chicago looks like!

At RIU we are still really excited by all this year’s big news. 2024 has brought us a great deal of joy thanks to the important openings and refurbishments that have taken place since the beginning of the year. Now it is the turn of the Riu Plaza Chicago hotel which opened its doors this July and is now fully operational. This hotel is very special for us because it is our first in the windy city and the fifth in the Riu Plaza range in the United States.

We are very proud of the result. After several months of work we can finally invite you to come and see us, right in the centre of Chicago! The newly built, 28-storey hotel enjoys a prime location at 150E Ontario Street, in the famous Magnificent Mile shopping area.

What’s it like inside the Riu Plaza Chicago hotel?

As soon as you enter the hotel, you will be welcomed with open arms by our elegant lobby, decorated with an impressive mural that evokes the iconic Art Deco style. With a design inspired by the Chicago School, you will be surprised by the play of light and dark, combining natural materials, such as marble and wood, with recycled elements. A subtle and refined style, a prelude to the experience the hotel has in store for you.

The new 4-star hotel has a total of 390 rooms and is ideal for holidaying with family or friends. The bedrooms are comfortable and bright, with natural light guiding you towards the views of the city’s skyline. The minimalist furniture with its iron structure is, together with the light colours and touches of wood, the main feature.

As we mentioned before, the hotel is located in the heart of Chicago, making it an ideal base from which to explore all the must-see places we mentioned in our previous Chicago blog, including Millennium Park, The Willis Tower, and Navy Pier. What are the key services offered at the Riu Plaza Chicago hotel?

The locals say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and at RIU we agree. That’s why our RIU Plaza urban hotels include a buffet breakfast. The perfect way to ensure you are fully energised so you don’t miss out on anything Chicago has to offer!

Plus, if you leave a little room for later, the lobby bar offers a Grab&Go service, which features a varied selection of snacks, coffees and drinks.

The Riu Plaza Chicago’s big secret

One of the hotel’s best kept secrets is its terrace, located on the 27th floor of the building, which you can visit starting in September! We recommend you enjoy a delicious snack at The Rooftop bar while you take in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city.

More intrepid guests can choose to walk on the glass balcony overhanging the building, inspired by our iconic hotel, the Riu Plaza España. Without a doubt, this is definitely not an experience for the faint-hearted.
