Discover the ambitious renovation project for RIU Hotels in Mauritius

5 January, 2023

In January, Luis Riu, CEO of RIU Hotels, presented the chain’s results of 2021 and the forecasts for 2022. He told us about the ambitious project he wanted to accomplish at the Riu Le Morne and Riu Creole hotels in Mauritius. It has been quite a challenge, but we are pleased to announce that the demolition of the two buildings has begun, to create a new complex where you can continue to enjoy our services.

Le Morne: RIU’s paradise

Both the Riu Le Morne and Riu Creole hotels are located on the idyllic beaches of the Le Morne peninsula, at the foot of Mount Morne Brabant. It is a very special place, as in addition to being one of the most beautiful mountains on the island, it has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. That is why having a hotel in such a privileged place means accepting a commitment to the country and its ecosystem, which we are proud to maintain and respect.

2020: the start

Delighted with the chain’s expansion in Mauritius, at the end of 2019 we started to think about improving the quality of the establishments even more. As a result, in 2020 we kicked off our plans to renovate the hotels, preferring to demolish them in order to create new buildings. However, the challenge was only just beginning, as the COVID-19 pandemic delayed our plans, and we also invested time and effort to ensure that our proposals guaranteed the protection of Le Morne. To achieve this, we are working with the Le Morne Heritage Trust Fund, creating a project with a cultural and visual impact that will use solar panels to generate energy.

The new RIU resort in Mauritius

The new hotels will be part of the Riu Palace and Riu Classic lines, and will have 700 rooms in total. They will have main dining rooms and two themed restaurants each, as well as a spa. Guests at both the Riu Palace hotel, which will be Adults Only, and the Riu Classic, will be able to enjoy the Splash Water World water park, which will be located in the latter. In addition, guests at the Riu Palace hotel whttp://blog/?p=14214ill have access to the new Elite Club service, the facilities of which will be located in one of this hotel’s buildings.

The RIU project in Mauritius becomes a reality

The project is currently in the demolition phase. During this process, the construction waste is separated and the furniture is also donated. This will allow furniture that is in perfect condition but cannot be used after demolition, to be given a second life. Last November, the hotel management and the Human Resources team invited 24 organisations in the Black River district to benefit from this donation of materials. The organisations involved included CáritasReve et EspoirKolektif Rivier Nwar, and Warm Heart Foundation.

We would like to express our gratitude for the work being carried out in Mauritius to ensure that you will soon be able to enjoy this paradise again in one of our hotels. We will keep you updated with the latest news from this ambitious project.
