19 September, 2024

It’s the time of year when we say goodbye to summer and start to embrace the autumn. The leaves are beginning to fall from the trees, the days are getting shorter by the minute and jumpers are becoming a common sight. This somewhat melancholic picture may seem less so if you enjoy it in specific places destined to surprise you at times like these.

Today we want you to discover a European city that combines culture, history and scenic beauty all in one. Still don’t know the place we’re talking about? Bingo! Welcome to Dublin.

What makes Dublin special?

Dublin is one of those cities that everyone talks about. Everyone recommends you go there, but you won’t really appreciate its magnitude until you have seen it with your own eyes.

And if you’ve already “had enough” after your summer holidays and you’re looking to get back into the swing of things, there’s no need to worry. The capital of the Republic of Ireland is the ideal place for a weekend getaway. Its wide range of cultural offerings, its diverse streets and its rich history will slowly envelop you in its magic. And of course, one of its charms is the great pub tradition that exists not only in the city, but throughout the country.

Have you got your map ready to circle all our recommendations in red? Now we’ll tell you all the must-see places to make your trip to Dublin unforgettable.

What should I visit in Dublin?

Our tour could begin in a number of places, but a good place to start is the River Liffey. From there, we can visit various iconic spots. During this pleasant walk you’ll be surrounded by Dublin’s unique architecture, where you’ll notice the unorthodox coloured doors of the locals’ houses. There are various theories about this phenomenon, each one more colourful than the last. For example, it’s said that the choice of colours was a protest against the British Government, which had ordered them all to be painted black in honour of the recently deceased Queen Victoria, or that the bright colours help you identify your home when you’ve had a drop too much beer.

And speaking of alcohol, you can’t leave Dublin without having a pint in one of the many pubs in Temple Bar, the city’s trendiest area. The next stop is the Guinness Storehouse, where you can learn about the origins and history of this iconic Dublin beer. Or Grafton Street, another great place to take a quick break.

Like any self-respecting European capital, Dublin also has shopping areas, like Henry Street, where you can lose yourself in the endless options. If you’re looking for a typical Irish souvenir for your loved ones, we highly recommend a Carrolls, you’ll see them all over the city.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral, named after the patron saint of Ireland, is the largest church in the country and its Gothic interior will take your breath away. You’ll also be blown away by Trinity College, right in the city centre. It is Ireland’s oldest university, attended by the likes of Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift and Bram Stoker. You can’t leave without checking out the Old Library, a place that’s a pleasure to lose yourself in.

In the collective imagination, we tend to associate Ireland with leafy green areas. Dublin is no exception, and Phoenix Park is a prime example of this. It is one of the lungs of the city, which also houses the President of Ireland’s official residence. And, of course, it wouldn’t be right to leave without saying goodbye to the one and only Molly Malone. Her statue honours a character from a folk song whose urban legend is still told to this day.

Where should I stay in Dublin?

As you can see, the tour is intense and extensive, meaning the starting point is key so that we have time to see everything in minute detail. And what better way than to stay in O’Connell Street, one of the city’s most important roads? RIU Hotels & Resorts presents the Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin.

This majestic 4-star hotel is the oldest building in the chain, dating back to the 19th century, 1817 to be exact. There is even a book dedicated to this iconic building! This historic establishment has just finished renovating its 404 rooms, and breakfast is included in the rate, like all RIU Plaza hotels. So you can start the day with your batteries fully charged!

Are you already packing your suitcase? Let’s go! Immerse yourself in Dublin’s charm and enjoy a city that will make a lasting impression.
