A destination where every aspect makes you fall in love with it: Cabo Verde
23 November, 2018There are destinations you fall in love with. It could be for the cuisine, the people, the beautiful and idyllic beaches or else the aspects that set it apart and make it unique. The destination we are presenting today unites all of the foregoing. Cape Verde, a stunning archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa, provides everything from marvellous coastlines to features that are unique to the location: the golden dunes that dominate most of the island of Boa Vista, the delightful hospitable nature of the local Cape Verdeans or the incredible experience of seeing sea turtles laying their eggs on the beaches of our hotels on the island of Sal.
You can cover the distance from end to end of the largest island, Boa Vista, in just one day. It is just 30 km wide and 30 km long, making it almost circular in shape. The beaches along the coastline are truly spectacular and we recommend visiting ones such as Praia Lacacão, where is located the Riu Touareg, Praia de Santa Mónica, Praia de Chaves and Praia das Dunas, where you will find the Riu Karamboa and the recently opened Riu Palace Boavista.
On Sal, the other Cape Verdean island where we have a presence, you will find another of the archipelago’s leading attractions. The beach where our Riu Funana and Riu Palace Cabo Verde hotels are located is important due to the sea turtles that lay their eggs there. RIU Hotels works hard to protect the sea turtles in collaboration with the NGO Project Diversity Association. Will you help us?
It would also be a unique opportunity for you to get to know the local inhabitants, whose hospitality and kindness are guaranteed to make you fall in love with the way they are. Always ready to help out and with permanent happy smiling faces, our local Cape Verdean staff end up winning the hearts of all our guests.
They will also tell you where to go to taste the best local Cape Verdean cuisine, a mixture of African and Portuguese influences based on fish, chicken, pork, rice and vegetables. The dish we are showing you here is cachupa, a casserole made from pork, beans, corn, cassava, sweet potato, carrot and cabbage, although it may contain other vegetables and the meat is sometimes replaced with fish.
Five hotels, people with enormous hearts, endless spectacular beaches, a rich and varied cuisine and unique experiences you will never forget. You can find all this and much more in Cape Verde, the place we would encourage you to come and spend your holidays with us. You deserve it!
